Tata Tiago — rent-to-own from MadRent

If you’ve been turned down by the banks — because you’re blacklisted, under debt review, or have a thin or poor credit record — you can still drive a brand-new car in South Africa. MadRent’s rent-to-own model was built for exactly this situation, because we assess affordability, not your credit score.

Can I get a rent-to-own car if I’m blacklisted or under debt review?

Yes. At MadRent we don’t run credit checks. A poor credit record, a listing at the credit bureaus, or being under debt review does not automatically disqualify you. What matters is whether you can comfortably afford the monthly payment.

What you need to qualify

  • A valid South African ID and driver’s licence
  • Proof of address
  • A minimum net salary of R18,000 per month (or a joint household income of R26,000)
  • A once-off startup fee (from R20,000, depending on the vehicle) — there is no deposit in the traditional bank sense, just this once-off fee to take delivery
  • If employed: 3 months’ bank statements + 3 recent payslips
  • If self-employed: 6 months’ bank statements

Approval is usually just a few minutes once your documents are in.

Why the banks say no — and why we can say yes

Bank vehicle finance is credit-led: your credit score largely decides the outcome, so a poor record or a blacklisting is often an instant decline. Rent-to-own with MadRent is affordability-led. Because you’re renting-to-own rather than taking out a loan, we can look at your ability to pay today rather than your credit history. There’s also no long-term 5–7 year commitment, and because it isn’t a bank loan, a missed payment doesn’t scar your credit record the way a defaulted vehicle loan would.

What’s included

Your single monthly payment is all-inclusive — insurance, a service plan, maintenance, tyres, a tracker, 24/7 roadside assistance, and even a courtesy car if your vehicle goes in for repairs. No surprise bills, and no hidden fees.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do a credit check?

No. We assess affordability, not your credit score. Your credit record has no bearing on approval.

I’m under debt review — can I still apply?

Yes, as long as you can afford the monthly payment on your remaining income.

Is there a deposit?

There’s no traditional deposit. There is a once-off startup fee (from R20,000, depending on the vehicle) to take delivery.

Can I cancel?
